Change the Rhythm of Your Life
A note from Kristen:
I owe my love of travel to my mom and dad. You see, before I was even born they uprooted our family from the gorgeous Pacific Northwest coastline to the cornfields of the Midwest. What that entailed was boarding me on a plane before I was even a year old to head back to the PNW to visit family. Summer after summer we traveled via plane, train, and automobile across the Western half of the United States. My favorite method of transportation was traversing cross-country via Amtrak- allowing me to see canyons, glaciers, mountains, an deserts. Most importantly, it allowed me to talk to people from all different walks of life.
Having caught the travel bug early, it should be no surprise that I made my first hop across the Atlantic Ocean to see the Emerald Isle when I graduated high school. Never one to “go with the flow,” I had laminated copies of all my passport information, printed directions of my routes from my hotel to each travel destination, and a detailed spreadsheet of my budget. I sorted and hole-punched my documents into a small binder that fit perfectly into my suitcase. Not one to take chances, I also gave my mother copies of my travel documents. After deciding that wasn’t organized enough, I also made a digital archive of my plans.
While some may say my method of planning was a bit… overkill… I can honestly say I don’t regret a moment of the painstaking research I took to plan each moment of the trip. When I arrived in Ireland, I had absolutely zero stress. I could take in each moment and fully immerse myself in travel. This journey gave me the confidence to travel to over 20 countries and counting, start a career in study abroad, and help friends and families plan their first trips overseas. For me, travel is not just a vacation - it is a unique opportunity to jump-start my nervous system and shift my worldview for the better.
